Head Burial Ground
Taiwan

The Head Burial Ground is living evidence of the history of the Duona Tribe. In the past, to protect their land and people, warriors fought against invaders. After their triumphant return, they would hang high their enemy’s heads. They did this to console the victimized tribal people, and to pay tribute to the victorious warriors. This unique head offering culture was thus formed.

The Head Burial Ground was the place where the heads of executed invaders were hung. Arch-shaped slabs form a wall beside the wooden footpath. This wall has lattices, but heads no longer hang on them. Visitors can also visit Duona settlements and the surrounding landscape from the ground.
