The Château de Maisons in Maisons-Laffitte (Yvelines) - Ile de France - France - is a masterpiece of François Mansart built around 1640 for René de Longueil, a prime example of French baroque architecture and a reference point in the history of French architecture. During the Empire the building belonged to Marshal Jean Lannes before being sold in 1818 to the Parisian banker Jacques Laffitte. We are here in the main vestibule decorated with columns. On the ceiling, eagles refer to the master of the place, constituting his speaking arms: "long eye". The low-reliefs evoke the four elements: water (Neptune), earth (Cybele), air (Juno) and fire (Jupiter).
