Atop Mount Tamalpais
The Bay Area

The fog crept over the Pacific Ocean up to the shoreline yet remained below the west peak of Mount Tamalpais when I shot this pano. In this pano you overlook Sausalito, Belvedere, Tiburon, Richardson Bay, Mill Valley, and, in the distance, San Francisco. Just below, to the west (ocean side), is the well-known town of Stinson Beach. You can just see the tip of one end of the town. It's deep roots to the beginnings of the 1960's hippie movement can still be felt in the small beach community. It's also well-known because the San Andreas fault, one of the more geologically active places on earth, comes ashore there.

Great shot. And do forgive me for making a little correction here if I may; First, you really aren't near the top of Mt.Tam, but you are near the top of Bolinas ridge. The west peak is about a mile down the road and you can just make out the white ball (Observatory) there if you zoom in near the end of the treeline. Also, the little town you are seeing in the distance is actually the town of Bolinas and not the town of Stinson Beach. Nice work. Thanks for the post.

    More About The Bay Area

The Bay Area is renowned for its natural beauty, affluence, diversity, and progressive thinking new age reputation. Lots of ammenities, tours and hotels can be found all around the area.San Francisco is the cultural and financial center of the Bay Area, and has the second highest population density of any major city in North America after New York City. It is also a major tourist destination, and transport and accommodation is plentiful, ranging from luxury hotels to cheap accommodation. San Jose is the largest city in terms of population, land area, and industrial development, and is the center of Silicon Valley, a well-known high technology region. Oakland is a major manufacturing and distribution center, rail terminus/hub, and has the fourth largest container shipping port in the United States.Largely because of San Francisco and Silicon Valley, the Bay Area presently ranks second only to the much larger New York City region in number of Fortune 500 company headquarters (April 2010 Fortune Magazine).  source: wikipedia
