A midwinter trip to visit in 2010 to perform maintenance at the Black Island Communication Facility, located about 25 miles from McMurdo Station in the Ross Sea Area of Antarctica. All radio (HF and VHF), data (internet) and television signals pass through here before reaching McMurdo and other Antarctic research stations.
