The Heaphy Track is acknowledged as one of the premier walking tracks in New Zealand, going from Karamea in the south (the only way to go due north is by boat or on foot!). It ends in the northern end of the Kahurangi Forest at the start of Golden Bay.

Huts are provided by DOC, but arrangements need to be made ahead to be sure of getting a place.
