Jagdhausalm, Eastern Tyrol, Austria
Austria

The "Jagdhausalm" in Eastern Tyrol near the Italian / Southern Tyrol border is one of the eldest mountain pastures in Austria. The first proven settlement is dated by 1212. In spite of it's altitude of 2009 m a.s.l. it was inhabited all the year until the 15th century. As the Jagdhausalm is situated far away from the next bigger village in the Austrian Defreggen valley, it's operated by Italian farmers from Southern Tyrol across the state border. The very old houses are unique in this alpine region for a mountain pasture.
