Punta Unión, High Pass of the Popular Santa Cruz Trek
Peru

This is one of the most popular trek in the whole of Cordillera Blanca and the highlight without any doubt is the high mountain pass of Punta Unión at 4760m which commands spectacular views of the Santa Cruz Valley and and the neighbouring mountains - in particular the Towering giant of Taulliraju, which stands at 5830m with the beautiful aquamarine glacial lake, Laguna Taullicocha by its foot as well as the distant Laguna Jantucocha in the valley. I had a clear mountain view when I was called upon to help a touring party for a few group photos - as luck would have it, the clouds soon drifted in by the time I finished my good cause.

More About South America

South America makes up the southern half of the Americas and a large part of Latin America. It's home to the world's longest mountain range, biggest waterfall and largest river -- even these mammoths pale in comparison to the stunning variety of life forms thriving in the rainforest. To the northwest, off the coast of Ecuador, lie the Galapagos Islands, which are unique for hosting species not found anywhere else on earth. Following liberation from Portugal and Spain, South America took off into its own development, capitalizing on the rich deposits of oil, gold, copper, silver and tango musicians.
