Istrien (kroatisch/slowenisch Istra, italienisch Istria, lat. Histria) ist die größte Halbinsel an der nördlichen Adria zwischen dem Golf von Triest und der Kvarner-Bucht vor Rijeka. Die Fläche der gesamten Halbinsel beträgt 3.476 km².
Die Bezeichnung Istrien geht auf den Namen der Histri, eines Stammes der Illyrer, zurück, die in dieser Region in der Antike lebten.
Der weitaus größte Teil Istriens gehört zu Kroatien, ein Teil des Nordens zu Slowenien und ein kleiner Landstrich um die Ortschaft Muggia zu Italien.
