Großer Arber - Gipfel-Kreuz
Deutschland

The summit of the Großer Arber is located in the municipality of Bayerisch Eisenstein, which is part of the Lower Bavarian district of Regen. The southwest flank of the mountain belongs to the municipality of Bodenmais, which is also located in this district, and its western flank to the municipality of Lohberg in the Upper Palatinate district of Cham. Rocks of the Richard Wagner head with the Great Rachel in the background The mountain has four peaks: the main summit with the summit cross erected in 1913, the Bodenmaiser bar with the characteristic Richard Wagner head that is often depicted, as well as the Kleiner and Großer Seeriegel. In addition to the Großer Arber, the mountain group also includes the Kleine Arber at 1,384 m. Below the peaks are the Große Arbersee and the Kleine Arbersee, both of which are surrounded by a nature reserve. The summit is marked by two buildings with radomes that house radar stations (RRP 117) of the Bundeswehr Air Force. These objects of the NATO air defense system were erected in 1982 during the Cold War against considerable protests by nature conservationists so close to the Czechoslovakian border to be able to monitor air traffic in the Eastern Bloc. In the north towards Lam there is a farmed plenter forest, in the south towards Bodenmais state forest. Most of the Großer Arber and the surrounding forest areas are owned by the Princes of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. In 1852 they acquired the property of the glassworks master Hafenbrädl in Böhmisch Eisenstein, later Markt Eisenstein, today Železná Ruda, and in 1872 those in Bayerisch Eisenstein. The tree-free summit zone of the Großer Arber is characterized by subalpine grasslands, rock corridors and pine bushes that are not found anywhere else in this extent in the Bavarian Forest. The characteristic bird species of the summit region include the meadow pipit, the Alpine pipit, the mountain pipit, the ring owl and the wheatear. The Bavarian Forest Nature Park in the Arber area has had a full-time nature conservation guard since the summer of 1995. The area supervisor is primarily available for the Arber summit area but also for the nature reserve “Großer Arbersee” with its Arbersee wall and the NSG “Riesloch” as a contact person for nature conservation issues and for guided tours. In addition to visitor information and public relations, the monitoring of the protected area regulations is one of their tasks. For the neighboring Upper Bavarian Forest Nature Park, there has been an additional area support service for the Großer Arber (focus: summit plateau and NSG “Kleiner Arbersee”) since 1999. The year 1884 saw the construction of a wooden shelter by the Bavarian Forest Association. In 1903 the first refuge was built on the summit. The current workers' shelter, which is covered with clapboards, was built in 1936 and expanded in 1985.

Mehr über Deutschland

Germany? Before the beginning there was Ginnungagap, an empty space of nothingness, filled with pure creative power. (Sort of like the inside of my head.)And it ends with Ragnarok, the twilight of the Gods. In between is much fighting, betrayal and romance. Just as a good Godly story should be.Heroes have their own graveyard called Valhalla. Unfortunately we cannot show you a panorama of it at this time, nor of the lovely Valkyries who are its escort service.Hail Odin, wandering God wielding wisdom and wand! Hail Freya, hail Tyr, hail Thor!Odin made the many lakes and the fish in them. In his traverses across the lands he caused there to be the Mulheim Bridge in Cologne, as did he make the Mercury fountain, Mercury being of his nature. But it is to the mighty Thor that the Hammering Man gives service.Between the time of the Nordic old ones and that of modern Frankfort there may have been a T.Rex or two on the scene. At least some mastodons for sure came through for lunch, then fell into tar pits to become fossils for us to find. And there we must leave you, O my most pure and holy children.Text by Steve Smith.
