Chester's famous clock stands on the Eastgate, built in 1768 on the site of the original gate to the Roman fortress of Deva. The clock was erected in 1899 to mark Queen Victoria's golden jubilee in 1897. To the right of the clock is Chester's prestigious Grosvenor Hotel.
