Riding the Marches of the Borough of Kirkwall was re-started in 1986 and since then has taken place on the first Sunday after the second Thursday in August. There is usually a good showing of horses and this year there was about 88 horses and 6 carriages.

To my mind this is a bit of a sub standard panorama. I was in too much of a hurry and quarter of an hour before this the sky was clear and again quarter of an hour after this the sky was clear, but "that's the way the cookie crumbles" as they say.
