St Asaph cathedral, North Wales
Wales
Yr Eglwys Gadeiriol LLanelwy (the english name is St Asaph cathedral) is the smallest in Britain and one of the oldest in Wales. The site was first documented in 560AD and the building has survived ravages of war at the hands of Henry III, Edward I, Owain Glyndwr and Oliver Cromwell. Its resent simple beauty comes from its careful restoration in 1870 by Gilbert Scott.
