Antelope Fire aftermath [1]
California

The Antelope Fire began from a lightning strike on August 1, 2021 south of Tennant, California & lasted to October 15, 2021, burning a total of 145,632 acres.  It was one of many large-scale fires brought on by an ongoing drought to the region.  It was nearly contained in September when abrupt extreme fire activity & winds broke fire lines & sent it northwards nearly 15 miles to Sheepy Ridge, nearly doubling it in size.  The fire tore through the west half of Lava Beds National Monument, greatly altering the landscape (the previous year, the Caldwell Fire burned the east side of the monument).  The Antelope Fire heavily burned through one of my favorite areas to explore from east to west.  This view is just off the Medicine Lake Road south of Lava Beds, mostly a ponderosa & manzanita mix that would normally have a few feet of snow, though it is now open & changed.  It was only a matter of time.  In this view the air is dead still w/ only the white noise sound of melting ice crackling in the sunlight over the barren pumice soil.
