The Hotel de Ville, the town hall dates from the 18th Century and is one of the attractions of the city. The city belongs to the southern French département of Hérault and lies on the river Orb and the Canal du Midi. Beziers is 20 km from the Mediterranean Sea, not far from the last foothills of the Massif Central in the level of the lower Languedoc. It is a city with more than 2700 years of history, which began with a tribal settlement on the banks of the Orb in the Neolithic Age. Beziers is a major transport hub.
