After the Pont du Gard, Carcassonne and are the nine locks of Fonseranes the most visited attraction in Languedoc-Roussillon. This flight of locks at Beziers is an absolute masterpiece of architecture of the Canal du Midi. At a length of 300 meters difference in height that is overcome of 21,50 meters. It is exciting to watch the lock operation of the many houseboats: Driving into the top lock, moor vessel floodgate to go, water is drained (woe betide you forget the rope to slacken and to hold loose) on floodgate, short Continue to the next lock chamber Ship tie, floodgate to go, water is drained ... and the whole nine times already, some crew was at the end of the smuggling exhausted, but happy to have mastered this challenge. As a visitor one of the locks is just here, almost one wants to lend a hand himself. You can hear the quiet thoughtful command of experienced skippers and the excited shouts of the inexperienced crew members. Lust, as well as time to try something? All along the Canal du Midi office where you can rent houseboats and even make a trip - perhaps through the nine locks of Fonseranes -. (Because of the tremendous rise in river tourism was built next to the locks of Fonseranes a boat lift - even this is very impressive, even if it is no longer in operation).

Béziers is a town in Languedoc in the southwest of France. It is a commune and a sub-prefecture of the Hérault department. The town is located on a small bluff above the river Orb, about 10 km (6.2 mi) from the Mediterranean Sea. At Béziers the Canal du Midi spans the river Orb as an aqueduct called the Pont-canal de l'Orb. claimed to be the first of its kind.
