A view from the summit of Fruit Mountain (elev. 5,932') in the Red Buttes Wilderness, California. I had come up from the north & traversed over to the false summit facing south, about 0.2 miles distant. The views here are pristine of the Western Siskiyou Mountains, focusing on the Red Buttes area itself, including Kangaroo & Rattlesnake Mountains. Pyramid, Figurehead, Whisky, Lake (Arnold), Grayback, & other high peaks in the area are also visible. To the northeast into Oregon, one could see the High Cascade volcanoes, primarily Mt. McLoughlin but even views of Crater Lake, Sky Lakes Wilderness, & the Mt. Thielsen/Bailey region. The valley to the southwest leads up to Azalea Lake, a plane crash & grave site from 1945 is located down there. It was calm & the snow wasn't too bad, from 4,500 feet elevation on up, leaving a nice appearance to the mountains. Even saw some large bear tracks. Knedyl was pretty beat reaching this spot, taking a nap the moment we reached the top.
