Lefkes
Greece

The forested mountain village of Lefkes, built amphitheatrically at an altitude of 250m it rests right at the heart of the island. The village, probably established in the 16th century, was founded by refugees from Crete and Peloponnesus as well as locals who were fleeing the shores to escape the pirates that were ravaging the costal towns.

The village maintains the traditional Cycladic style unchanged by the influence of tourism: white washed houses and stone paths, squares and wells and clean, narrow marble streets. Vehicles are left in the parking lot at the entrance to the village so the only way to explore is on foot.
