This mission buildings and water system were fully restored by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1941 and is the only complete mission complex in the California Mission system.

The mission was originally located wihtin the present-day limits of Lompoc in 1787, but an earthquake in 1812 destroyed it and the current site was selected for reconstruction.
