Lookwatering, Den Hoorn, The Netherlands
Netherlands

Lookwatering is a watercourse from the thirteenth century that crosses the village Den Hoorn in South-Holland. The water has a length of about 1.8 kilometres and connects the Kastanjewetering with the channel 'de Gaag'. The water was previously used by farmers who had settled there between the Dijkshoornseweg and the lookwatering and had a private vegetable garden or baker. In the 20th century many greenhouses were built around the water, wich are slowly disappearing since 2008 to give way for large-scale new construction projects. The Lookwatering is now no longer used as waterway but still every now and then by boats. Because the water is quite shallow, it has many plant growth in it, and multiple low bridges can be found.
