In Straß befindet sich das ab 1583 erbaute Stammschloss der bedeutenden steirischen Adelsfamilie der Eggenberger. 1852 verkaufte Graf Karl Attems das Schloss an das Militär, das das Schloss als Militärerziehungsanstalt und Militärschule und dann als Kaserne nutzte.
