Atlanta the New Hermitage
The new Hermitage - the first building in Russia, created specially for placing of art collections of a museum, has been erected under the project of German architect Leo a background of Klentse. The architects V.P.Stasov and N.E.Efim who were carrying out in 1842-1851 the project of Klentse, have made essential changes to a plan of the Munich colleague, having connected a building with the developed architectural environment.
To the new Hermitage erected in style of a historicism, the severity and monumentalism of shape, harmony of architectural volumes are inherent. The input in a museum is accented by a majestic portico with figures atlanta.

Moscow has been the capital of Russia for almost its entire history. The exception is during the period of the Russian Empire, which lasted from 1721 until the Russian Revolution 1917. For these two centuries the capital was St. Petersburg. The Russian Empire was the second largest contiguous Empire in world memory; only the Mongol Empire had been greater.
