On the top of Mount Halla, there is a lake formed by volcanic eruption called Baeknok Lake. The circumference of the crater is about 1.7km, the depth of the crater lake is about 110m, the area is more than 60,000 pyeong (198,348㎡). When the lake is filled with water due to torrential rain during the monsoon season, two thirds of the crater lake is filled with water. However, regretably, due to natural evaporation, the amount of water has recently decreased.

The name of Baeknok Lake comes from the legend that a god on a white deer came down and drank water. It is known that angels come down from Heaven and spend time here. Even on a very fine day, the wind brings clouds and makes it look sacred. Therefore, it is also known as Mount Yeongju since common people wouldnt dare to come here.
