至於六塊厝漁港最特殊的「石滬」傳統捕魚方式，是指居民以大屯山之火山岩石圍成石堤，利用海水潮汐漲退來捕捉魚蝦。這種石滬圍漁方式，在日治時期達到鼎盛，管理上尤其嚴格，規定每一石滬有一定規模，並有一漁戶照顧，當時石滬的魚貨量相當大，因此使得漁村一片富庶現象；此外，石滬還可以減緩海潮之害，形成海堤外的外堤，可謂一舉數得；以現代的說法來說，石滬就是台灣海岸上最早的生態工法。
