Captain George Vancouver
England

Captain George Vancouver was born in King's Lynn, Norfolk, on June 22, 1757. He was the son of John Jasper Vancouver (an assistant collector of customs at King's Lynn) and Bridget Berners. In 1772 George Vancouver was appointed to a position under James Cook. It would be the start of his nautical career.

In 1790 Capt. Vancouver was chosen to represent England at the Nootka Conference. During his voyage to the conference he was instructed to make an extensive exploration of the Pacific Coast. In particular he was to keep a careful lookout for any river or passage the might connect the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.
