General Grant Grove, Sequoia National Park, California
California
Sequoia National Park is home to the largest trees in the world. A 2,500 year old specimen could contain as much as 600,000 board feet of lumber. These groves were decimated in the early 20th century as huge trees were cut down for shingles and matchsticks. These forest monarchs are now protected from the ravages of man.
