According to tradition, the Frauenkirche in Herrieden stands on the foundations of a "crypt" built or initiated by Charlemagne (768-814). The sacred building was extensively renovated between 1997 and 2000. A special feature of this church is the stencil painting the side walls of the choir and nave as well as in the soffits of the windows. The net-vaulted ceiling in the choir shows 4 pictures from the life of Mary and her son.
