Introduction of the Center for Space and Remote Sensing Research
The Center for Space and Remote Sensing Research was established on July 1 st , 1984 at the National Central University . Its primary missions are in the research and teaching of space and remote sensing related sciences, and also in the development of new remote sensing technology and applications.
The center is organized into three research groups, namely the Remote Sensing Group, the Spatial Information Group, and the Space Sciences Group.
In addition, under the funding by the National Science Council, a resource satellite receiving station was established in 1993 to receive and process real-time satellite image data. The station is, currently, capable of receiving the data from SPOT-2,-4 and-5, ERS-2, EROS-A, Terra, Aqua and Formosat 2, which was launched in May, 2004. The station plays three major roles, providing standard and value-added products; carrying out research and development on radiometric and geometric corrections as well as applications; and offering education and outreach programs. It is quite unique in world-wide ground station community to act “three-in-one” role.
