The small town of Schneeberg was most likely established before the turn of the millennium as the cloister courtyard of the Amorbach Benedictine abbey. The first written mention of Schneeberg, however, is only dated to 1237. The consecration in honor of the Mother of God is attested for the year 1445. The image of grace was also created during this time. In 1521 the chapel of grace was built around the miraculous image.
