Sharansh Mikveh Area
Iraq

One of the earliest Jewish communities in the Kurdish highlands Sharanesh, the village of Sharanesh (also spelled Sharanish) is located near Iraq’s border with Turkey, just north of Zakho, in the Duhok Governorate. The village is considered to be one of the most beautiful places in Iraqi-Kurdistan. A nearby river (picutred here) that draws tourists was once used by local Jews as a mikveh or a ritual immersion bath.
