I can only imagine what this view would have looked like in 1899 when the mansion was completed. Construction of the Holy Cross Monastery, on the other side of the Hudson River, didn't begin for another three years. James Roosevelt, the father of Franklin D. Roosevelt, was a neighbor who lived just down the road.
