После взятия Казани в 1552 году войсками Ивана Грозного бывщая столица Казанского ханства становится административным и военным центром присоединенного Поволжья (1552-1708 гг). С 1708 года Кремль - центр Казанской губернии. Мечеть Кул Шариф построена в 1996—2005 гг. по проекту авторской группы архитекторов фирмы «Татинвестгражданпроект»
