Antonio Ricaurte Museum, Gardens, Villa de Leyva, Boyaca, Colombia
Colombia
Captain Antonio Ricaurte was a hero who gave his life at San Mateo, Venezuela, in the year 1814, during the South America Independence War. He fought beside General Simon Bolivar. His death was self-immolation because he activated a bomb to destroy a weapons deposit which was going to be captured by enemies. He was born at Villa de Leyva, the reason why the museum was built in this location
