Braga, Square of Mouzinho Albuquerque, Campo Novo, aerial view
Portugal

The square was opened in 1725, at the initiative of the then Archbishop of Braga, D. Rodrigo de Moura Teles, with project of the architect Manuel Pinto de Vilalobos. This place has already had the designations of Gavião Square, District of Gavieira, Quintier's Neighborhood, New Countryside of Reducing and Neighborhood of Reduto (eighteenth centuries XIII and XIX).

The current official designation - Mouzinho de Albuquerque Square - was attributed on January 4, 1898, by proposal from the Camera Vice-President. The designation was only confirmed by the autarchy on August 3, 1942. The page continues, however, to be called by the population of "new field".

In the center of the square is a statue of Pedro V of Portugal by the sculptor Teixeira Lopes, father. In 1869 in the field of Santana, today Central Avenue, on December 22, 1913 was transferred to the current location In addition to the garden, in this square there is still a granite fountain, at the top north, and the Count of Carcavelos, erected in the nineteenth century, which was at the service of the Ministry of Health. They are installed around this square, among other institutions, the patronate of Our Lady of Light and the grouping of Saint Vincent scouts.
