Brescia - New cathedral

Il Duomo Nuovo venne edificato tra il 1604 e il 1825; venne scelta l'area su cui sorgeva la basilica (estiva) paleocristiana di S. Pietro de Dom (V-VI secolo).
La grandiosa facciata fu eretta ad opera degli architetti bresciani Giovan Battista e Antonio Marchetti mentre i lavori vennero ultimati dall'architetto milanese Luigi Cagnola che provvide ad erigere la bella cupola che richiama peraltro quella di S. Pietro a Roma. Quest'ultima venne poi distrutta durante i bombardamenti del 1943 e ricostruita dopo la guerra.
