Vila do Conde, Convent of Santa Clara, Nave
Portugal

In the 13th century the village belonged to D. Maria Pais, Ribeirinha, with whom King D. Sancho I fell in love and it would have been a great tetraneta, D. Teresa Martins, married to Afonso Sanches, illegitimate son of King D. Dinis, who will found the Royal Monastery of Santa Clara in 1318, which was intended to help poor girls. This building is now considered one of the most emblematic monuments in the city. It is a reconstruction and expansion of the 18th century, classified as a National Monument. Also the Romanesque aqueduct, built between 1705 and 1714 with 999 arches, which transported water from the springs of the Terroso river to the Santa Clara Convent is now classified as a National Monument.
