Covadonga The Sanctuary of Covadonga, where the Visigoths started the Reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula, is probably the most important Asturian symbol. The 'Santina' -a XVIth C. image of the Virgin Mary, is worshipped there. It took the place of the original wooden image, lost during a fire in 1777. The Neo-Romanesque Basilica nearby dates from the beginning of the XXth C.
