Wiki: Erlangen (fränkisch: Erlang) ist eine kreisfreie Stadt im bayerischen Regierungsbezirk Mittelfranken. Die Stadt ist Sitz des Landkreises Erlangen-Höchstadt (ehem. Landkreis Erlangen) und mit etwas über 106.200 Einwohnern (Stand 31. März 2012) die kleinste der insgesamt acht Großstädte des Freistaates Bayern.[2]

Erlangen bildet zusammen mit den Städten Nürnberg und Fürth eines der 23 Oberzentren des Freistaates Bayern. Gemeinsam mit ihrem Umland bilden sie die Europäische Metropolregion Nürnberg, eine von elf Metropolregionen in Deutschland.

Erlangen is a Middle Franconian city in Bavaria, Germany. It is located at the confluence of the river Regnitz and its large tributary, the Untere Schwabach. Erlangen has more than 100,000 inhabitants.

Erlangen is today dominated by the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and the numerous branch offices of Siemens AG, as well as a large Institute of the Fraunhofer Society. An event that still influences the city was the settlement of Huguenots after the withdrawal of the Edict of Nantes in 1685.
