It was built in the XVIIth century, as the town started expanding out of the walls. As many other streets in Avilés, houses were provided with porticos, so they formed a corridor for pedestrians to shelter themselves from rain or sunshine. These porticos were also the location chosen by craftsmen to do their work in.
The Galiana Street houses had all a little backyard where people used to grow their vegetables or have hens and cows to provide for their sustenence.
