Gmünd is the district capital of the district of Gmünd in the northwestern Waldviertel in Lower Austria with 5377 inhabitants (January 2013). Gmünd is the economic, cultural and tourist center of the upper Waldviertel. Situated on the Lainsitz (Lužnice) river where it forms the border with České Velenice in the Czech Republic, it is an important road and railway crossing point. This is an overview of Lower Austria

Niederösterreich ist ein Bundesland von Österreich. Es ist vor allem für seine Kulturgüter, wie das UNESCO Weltkulturerbe Wachau, bekannt.

Es ist das flächenmäßig größte Bundesland Österreichs und besteht aus viert Viertel. Das Weinviertel im Nordosten, das Waldviertel im Nordwesten, das Mostviertel im Südwesten und das Industrieviertel im Südosten.

Die Landeshauptstadt ist seit 1986 die im Zentrum des Bundesland liegende Statutarstadt St. Pölten.
