Lower Austria
Gmünd is the district capital of the district of Gmünd in the northwestern Waldviertel in Lower Austria with 5377 inhabitants (January 2013). Gmünd is the economic, cultural and tourist center of the upper Waldviertel. Situated on the Lainsitz (Lužnice) river where it forms the border with České Velenice in the Czech Republic, it is an important road and railway crossing point.
