來到觀音山，不管是步道階梯或是廟宇建材，大多都是用從這裡生產的觀音山石建造而成的。因為觀音山石表面佈滿了密密麻麻的毛細孔，據說能夠依晴雨的不同，將空氣中的濕氣吐納調節，所以相當耐用，跟其他石材比較起來，也較不容易受到風化侵蝕的影響。

目前位於觀音山風景管理處前石雕公園的雕刻作品，全數都是採用觀音山石雕刻而成。其中「龍的傳人」，共分為八層，各層主題各有不同，遊客來到這裡，不妨停下腳步欣賞一下利用觀音山石表現出來的質樸美感。
