Le monument est situé près de Hermann Hiddesen sud-ouest de Detmold en Rhénanie du Nord-Westphalie, dans la forêt au sud de Teutoburg. Il a été construit de 1838 à 1875 selon les plans d'Ernst von Bandel.
Le monument est de rappeler Cheruscan Arminius et de la bataille dite de la forêt de Teutoburg, dans les tribus germaniques dirigée par Arminius (en latin, en allemand: Hermann, Armin et Irmin les légions romaines sous Publius Varus en 9 Quinctilius une défaite décisive enseigné.
Le Hermannsdenkmal (monument d'Hermann) est un monument situé en Rhénanie-du-Nord-Westphalie en Allemagne dans le sud de la forêt de Teutberg, qui se trouve au sud-ouest de Detmold dans le district de Lippe Il se dresse sur le mont densément boisé de Teutberg qui s'élève à 386 mètres, au centre de la fortification circulaire de Grotenburg.
Le monument célèbre le chef de guerre Cherusque Arminius et la bataille de la forêt de Teutberg qui vit les tribus germaniques sous le commandement d'Arminius vaincre de manière décisive trois légions romaines de Varus en l'an 9 après JC.

Odin made the many lakes and the fish in them. In his traverses across the lands he caused there to be the Mulheim Bridge in Cologne, as did he make the Mercury fountain, Mercury being of his nature.
But it is to the mighty Thor that the Hammering Man gives service.
Between the time of the Nordic old ones and that of modern Frankfort there may have been a T.Rex or two on the scene. At least some mastodons for sure came through for lunch, then fell into tar pits to become fossils for us to find.
