Die Herzog August Bibliothek („HAB“) in Wolfenbüttel, (Niedersachsen), auch bekannt unter dem Namen „Bibliotheca Augusta“, ist eine international bekannte Bibliothek und bedeutende Forschungsstätte vor allem für das Mittelalter und die frühe Neuzeit. Sie untersteht unmittelbar dem Niedersächsischen Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kultur, das die Arbeit der HAB durch einen international besetzten Wissenschaftlichen Beirat begleiten lässt. An der HAB wird Forschung betrieben und gefördert, unter anderem durch Stipendien. Regelmäßig werden wissenschaftliche Tagungen und kulturelle Veranstaltungen sowie Ausstellungen von überregionaler Bedeutung organisiert. Direktor der HAB ist Helwig Schmidt-Glintzer. Durch die Mitarbeit in der Arbeitsgemeinschaft Sammlung Deutscher Drucke ist die HAB zusammen mit anderen Bibliotheken und den Sondersammelgebieten in die Bildung einer dezentralen Nationalbibliothek für Deutschland eingebunden.
