Hyundai Sky Park 1 By The Baloon
South Africa

Hyundai Sky Park, also known as Mushroom Farm Park is a small park in Sandton just behind the Radison Blu hotel. This is one of Hyundai's green environment projects in Johannesburg, they secured the rights to the park about 2 years ago and have been working to improve it and make it a more ecologically friendly park.

The park currently features an interactive play area, fitness equipment, earth garden, an amphitheater, a sky balloon ride (not that I could find anyone to pay so I could go up), and their are plans to add a coffee shop and restaurant in the future. Through all their work Hyundai has transformed Mushroom Farm Park into a quiet sanctuary in the hart of the Johannesburg central business district where families and other visitors can go and relax in a safe an (mostly) clean environment.

Personally I think they need to put a little more effort into grounds maintenance as there was trash floating in the ponds and a large trash pile behind one of the sheds (which could easily have been hidden by a fence). The other problem is the bathrooms which are right next to the parking lot smell like they had not been cleaned in a couple months, but otherwise I found the park very pleasing and will keep trying to figure out how to go up in the balloon.

More About Africa

Welcome to Africa, AKA the motherland! Check out African Internet Radio while you're scoping the panoramas. The earliest fossil of the homo sapiens family (human beings) was found in Ethiopia, dating back more than 200,000 years. Compared to this length of time, even the "ancient Sumerians" from 6000 B.C. are drooling toddlers.Let's mention a few African heroes you may have heard of, for inspiration in the face of the continued economic inequality and violence which plague Africa today: Nelson Mandela, first democratically elected President of South Africa, who fought against apartheid and served 27 years in prison while advocating freedom and peace. Haile Salassie, Emperor of Ethiopia, who resisted Mussolini and the fascist Italian invasion of WWII, and who is worshipped as an incarnation of God by the Rastafari movement. Kwame Nkrumah, first Prime Minister of Ghana, advocate of uniting Africa in Pan-Africanism. Fela Kuti, inventor of Afrobeat music, who declared his home to be an independent state, ran for president of Nigeria, and to whose funeral ONE MILLION PEOPLE came to pay their respects. In June 2001 the African Union was formed, consisting of 53 African States organized, like in the EU, around common economic and political development.Text by Steve Smith.
