Kettle Valley Railway
Completed in 1913, the original structure was 189 metres (619 feet) long, including a 76 metre (250 feet) steel truss bridge, with two trestle approaches. It was the highest structure on the KVR line, at 72 metres (238 feet) above the creek. In the late 1920s, the trestles were filled in with earth.
Andrew McCulloch, Chief Engineer of the KVR, personally oversaw the construction of the bridge. Upon its completion, his calculations were out a mere quarter of an inch.
This is still an active rail line w/ no one allowed on the trestle when a train is coming through. It is unique for having a pedestrian walkway including, being part of the Kettle Valley Rail Trail which runs for 644.4 kilometres (399.5 miles). Decking for this section of the trail was added after 20 year-old Mark Ricciardi fell through the railing to his death in October 2002.
