Mt. Dome (6518'/1987m) summit
California

View from the summit of Mt. Dome (elev. 6,518') west of Lava Beds National Monument, California.  From here one can get a vast view of the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge to the north (usually there is water but it has been a prolonged drought).  To the east is more of the Klamath Basin, the shrunken Tule Lake Sump, Lava Beds National Monument, Medicine Lake Volcano to the southeast, Mount Shasta to the southwest, & Goosenest & the Butte Valley to the west.  The summit area itself is largely obstructed by tangled junipers & mountain mahogany (I climbed a mahogany for this panorama), only cleared away some years ago by what appears to be an old fire line.  It is a prolific mountain from the Klamath Basin & Lava Beds, though only a few summit it (from the summit register, I was the first in over 2.5 years).  A survey marker was dated 1932 & an old wooden weather platform was at the top, along w/ an old boot dangling from one of the wooden planks.
