Der Alte Südfriedhof in München wurde 1563 als Pestfriedhof vor den Toren der Stadt durch Herzog Albrecht V. angelegt. Er liegt etwa einen halben Kilometer südlich des Sendlinger Tors zwischen Thalkirchner Straße und Pestalozzistraße. Er war von 1788 bis 1868, also 80 Jahre lang, die einzige und allgemeine Begräbnisstätte für die Toten aus dem gesamten Stadtgebiet, weshalb hier die Gräber einer ganzen Reihe prominenter Münchner zu finden sind.
