Nakhal Fort's Canon & West Tower

Nakhal fort is located in Nakhal town, Sultanate of Oman. Nakhal is small city about 100km west of Muscat (The capital city of Oman) or 30km south of Barka. The town is at the edge of Jabal Akhdhar Mountains (The green mountains). The word "Nakhal" is derived from "Nakheel" which means "date palm" in Arabic language. The current view from the fort includes an old Canon, Western tower, part of the town and date palm plantations as well as the fort interior. The fort has been constructed on a rock which part of it has been integrated into the fort. The history of Nakhal fort goes back to the pre-Islamic era.

More About Middle East

Modern civilization began right here in the Tigris-Euphrates river valley.
