Дворец Культуры. Щёкино. (Schekino city, the Palace of Culture)

Возник как посёлок в связи с разработкой месторождений бурого угля. В 1870 г. заложена первая шахта). Одновременно братья Гилль построили два небольших завода - огнеупорного кирпича и по производству серной и азотной кислот. После 1917 г. реконструировались действующие и строились новые шахты. К 1941 г. дейстовало 8 шахт, строилось ещё 4. В 1931 г. был введён в строй завод "Кислотоупор", в 1932 г. - кирпичный и молочный заводы, хлебозавод. Город с 1938 г.; название по деревне Щёкино. Ойконим от прозвищного имени Щёка или от распространённой фамилии Щёкин. В годы Великой Отечественной войны 1941-45 был оккупирован немецко-фашистскими войсками 28 сентября 1941 г. Освобождён 17 декабря 1941 г. войсками Западного фронта в ходе Тульской операции.
