Peneda Geres National Park, River Homem valley
Portugal

Homem is a Portuguese river, a tributary of the right bank of the Cávado, with a length of 37 kilometers, born in the Serra do Gerês. In this river is located the hydroelectric plant of Vilarinho das Furnas, with a useful capacity of the reservoir of 69.7 hm³.

The upper part of the Homem River to Minas dos Carris is located in the Total Protection Zone of the PNPG. There is a route through this valley to Minas dos Carris. It is a linear (non-circular) route, with about 9.6 km with high difficulty (817m of accumulated elevation going up, mostly gravel and few shadows). This trail always follows the bed of the Homem River and throughout the first half there are several accesses to the water that is translucent.

Mata de Albergaria is one of the most important forests of the PenedaGerês National Park (PNPG), constituted predominantly by a secular oak that includes characteristic species of Geresian fauna and flora. It also guards a section of Via Romana - Geira - with the ruins of its bridges and a significant set of milestones.
