Porto, Casa da Musica, Renaissance Room
Portugal

The name of the Renaissance Room comes from the tiles that cover it, which show a pattern created by two parallelograms and a square, with the colors blue, green and white. The inspiration came, on the one hand, from the city's façades, which in the 19th century took on patterns similar to this one. On the other hand, the optical illusion caused by the mosaic of tiles evokes the European Renaissance, a time of cultural, artistic and scientific explosion in which the use of perspective in painting began to be truly explored. And there is still, as a possible reference, Op Art, an artistic current that, in the 1960s of the 20th century, worked on the natural effects of the equestrian and isometric perspective to create eye confusion, a sensation of volumes and optical vibrations so strong that they even suggested movement.

The Renascença Room is, above all, a crossing point that establishes the connection between two fundamental spaces in the House: Cibermúsica and Foyer Poente. It was designed and built to be another Casa da Musica bar, which would appear whenever the number and circulation of audiences, namely in events with simultaneous concerts, required it. Problems related to the dimensions of accesses and kitchen equipment prevented, however, its licensing as a bar
